La grave. Tucked away in the Haute alpes region of France it has been talked about for years in hushed tones reserved for talk of secret stashes of mystical powder and steep steeps. It is truly an accessible place in this skiing world that everyone should visit at least once in their lives.

Long held as the playground for the big boys it now has something for everybody from the intermediate skier wanting to learn more of steep skiing to the well accomplished wanting to get their teeth stuck into something real.

The unique telepherique in town carries you up into the land of off piste playground. There is no ski patrol here, harnesses are mandatory and the thrills just keep coming.

A typical ski descent offers limitless variety from tame to steep terrain commencing on the glacier, proceeding down spectacular open bowls, winding its way through small chutes, crossing glacial moraines into seemingly endless steeps and deeps in the serenity of the forest. Legendary descents from the Girose glacier, with direct lines of 7500 feet explain why so many riders come back year after year to enjoy free-riding with one of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the Alps.

An excellent place to hone your skills and get you comfortable and confident in the steep and/ or technical terrain there are a number of areas surrounding la Grave that means regardless of weather and conditions we can take you to where the skiing is best. A week here will lead you through a progression that will fulfill and give fuel to your craziest skiing dreams and aspirations.

La Grave and the surrounding area is an ideal mountain base for ski touring. Some of the classic alpine tours can be accessed within a simple one hour hike up into the most spectacular terrain to Multiple 2 to 3 day tours . The tours are too numerous to mention individually, but several are too exceptional not to be mentioned: Day tours – try one of the great classics: Enfetchores, Combeynot, Trois Evêchés, Pic Blanc, Replat-Bérarde Traverse, Dômes du Mônetier Traverse,Grandes Rousses Traverse. Multiple day tours of 2 to 3 days: Tours de la Meije.
